Governments are full of lawyers and the law society advises the government. If we had a change for fair laws we would save a fortune in cash and heartbreak.
£2bn legal raid
Taxpayers' huge court cases bill
Misery stemming from fractured families and crime is fuelling a rise in cases where solicitors and barristers are funded at public expense.
The massive bill - equivalent to £35 out of every person's pocket - has been boosted by a more litigious society and an increase in "ambulance chaser" lawyers.
Hundreds of millions are being spent on advice to suspects while in many cases the Government is paying lawyers to sue different arms of itself such as the NHS, councils or police forces.
The Ministry of Justice admitted to The Sun that the bill per head was far higher than most other countries and that the system encouraged "lengthy, acrimonious and sometimes unnecessary" court proceedings at taxpayers' expense.
People on BENEFITS who say their cash has been miscalculated, PRISONERS arguing about jail conditions and illegal IMMIGRANTS trying to stay here can all be funded from legal aid. Last year, spending on parents in conflict over access alone cost £52million.
The bill for solicitors to advise suspects held at police stations was £174million while representing defendants in magistrates courts cost £232million and crown courts £733million.
Charlotte Linacre, of the TaxPayers' Alliance , said: "Having access to justice is crucial but the costs need to be reviewed."
The MoJ said choices had to be made to ensure legal aid continued to be available for the most vulnerable in society.
Law Society president Linda Lee said she was "alarmed" by proposals to cut solicitors' fees by ten per cent, adding: "It is not right to say spending on Legal Aid is out of control."
