There has been little motivation this year to do much. We have had meetings with other local groups. We hope to do more canvassing for new members this year to give us the funds to rise again
Jimmy left temporarily to take up a candidate position for the All Scotland Pensioners Party as long as he could include the welfare of Families, Grandparents, and Disabled but they did not get enough votes. They did very well and came in better than some longer established parties. But as you know the SNP made a sweeping victory. We will struggle on.
The SNP victory has taken the wind out of our sails as they hold Grandparents, Families etc very low on their priority list and are just not interested at all in what we do.
However on the good side, a prominent member of the church set us up with a meeting for us to let them know what we are about. They were very impressed and we wrote a letter for them to publish in their newsletter. This might be the door that opens when one slams in our face. Watch this space!
What impresses us is it is not just one church that is involved but a whole lot of churches who are interested in the welfare of children and their grandparents.
If you are involved with a church ask them if they too would like to be included in what I believe to be a revitalisation of the traditional family. Lets face it the way the government is working it is destroying the family.
The governments don’t recognise grandparents as relevant persons in children’s lives and the social services are blatantly ignoring the role grandparents can play which is what the Charter for Grandchildren was created for.
It would appear to us that the government do not want change for the better as the government is full of lawyers and lawyers and advise the government. They are making a mint out of family problems. Government funded organisations like Woman’s Aid with social workers are actively working against the unification of the family by alienating all the male members of a child’s family even if they have done no wrong. It is a tremendous loss to the children when they are stopped seeing their grandparents and often think it is something they themselves have done.
Family needs Fathers, also a government funded organisation have been duping dads with platitudes for 30 odd years with no advancement. In Scotland FnF is run by a social worker would you believe, who can’t do this or that because of her job. A grandparents group started up in Glasgow by a social worker asked us along to give them advice and after we did the social worker said they couldn’t associate with us because we were campaigning against government policies.
When are you all going to waken up to this lot. United we have the say to do something about it
